Welfare Standing Committee

Under the Kerala Panchayat Raj Act, the main duties and powers of the Welfare Standing Committee of the Block Panchayat are as follows:

To plan and implement projects for the educational, economic and social advancement of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
To supervise housing construction, drinking water and self-employment projects for these communities.

To formulate and implement projects for the welfare of women and children.
To take steps to improve the functioning of Anganwadis and to ensure the distribution of nutritious food.
To provide the training and assistance necessary for women's empowerment and self-employment.

To coordinate rehabilitation projects for persons with disabilities, the distribution of assistive devices, and scholarships.
To ensure the protection schemes for senior citizens and the functioning of old-age homes and day-care centres.
